Ange Postecoglou can save himself amid Tottenham transfer news

Tottenham have suffered a defensive crisis this season and the signing of Milan Skriniar could be enough to save Ange Postecoglou’s job.

Spurs have endured a tough season so far and injuries have certainly played their part although the lack of a plan B from Postecoglou has proven detrimental with him unwilling to adapt his way of playing despite current circumstances.

With Cristian Romero and Micky Van De Ven out injured, players have been shoehorned into natural positions and asked to play the same way and it just simply hasn’t worked.

Adaptation in times of need is crucial to success and with Postecoglou’s unwillingness to do that, the addition of a central defender in January could be pivotal to hopes of a revival with Skriniar one of those linked according to Caught Offside (26 December).

Sufficient depth is key to success for Tottenham

Archie Gray has been asked to deputise at centre-back in the absence of Spurs’ two starting defenders and it just hasn’t really worked.

Gray is an exceptional footballer but his best attributes aren’t showcased in the centre of defence, especially at a key stage in his development.

If Postecoglou wont budge on his way of playing, it is vital that Spurs address their weaknesses in depth and Skriniar would be an excellent step forward to acheicing that given his robust defensive ability as well as tendency to play the ball out from the back.

The season isn’t out of sight yet but if January doesn’t bring reinforcements, any chance of success will surely be curtailed and it would likely cost Postecoglou his job.

If Spurs are serious about their ambition, Skriniar’s arrival is a must and it could be enough to buy some more time for Postecoglou.
