Tottenham gag you might have missed in Gavin and Stacey finale

Tottenham fans watching the Gavin and Stacey finale on BBC One on Christmas Day will have needed eagle eyes to spot a hidden gag involving their club.

Don’t worry, there will be no (huge) spoilers to come about the final ever episode of one of the most popular British comedies of the 21st century, which is available to watch on iPlayer now.

But it’s no surprise to hear that the premise of the episode centres on the ‘Will they? Won’t they?’ storyline involving two of the show’s most popular characters Smithy and Nessa, played by the creators of the show James Corden and Ruth Jones.

During one scene, Corden’s Smithy character is one his own stag doo (but who is he marrying?) and all his pals and family – including the likes of Mick Shipman, Peter Sutcliffe, and the extremely popular Uncle Bryn – whip off their jackets to reveal a host of West Ham football shirts with “Smithy 16” on the back.

Smithy’s best pal and best man Gavin – played by Mathew Horne – also does so but fans of the show will be aware that one of the titular characters is actually a Tottenham fan…which is where the gag comes in.

A close-up of Gavin’s shirt showed a Tottenham sticker plastered over the Hammers’ badge as a show of allegiance to his own club.

It was a nice nod to one of the show’s many, many running themes.

Tottenham feature briefly in Gavin and Stacey finale

Over 18million people tuned in for the previous Christmas Day episode of the extremely popular BBC One comedy and it would be no surprise to see those figures smashed for the final episode.

It was way back in 2007 that the show first hit our screens and the anticipation for the last airing of the modern-day classic was highly anticipated.

No doubt countless Spurs fans will have been tuning in too as the festivities wound down on Christmas Day and many will have been delighted by the little nod to their club.

Many will have spotted the sticker on the badge but for anyone who didn’t then have a wind back and see if you can pick it out.
