Exclusive: Tottenham working to sign 'some of Europe's biggest talents'

Tottenham are working on moves to sign some of Europe’s most talented young players, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that a new transfer strategy has already been implemented to help strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad while building for the future.

This comes amid interest in 19-year-old Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu, who is emerging as one of the most promising talents in Serie A.

In the summer, Spurs completed deals to sign Archie Gray, 18, Wilson Odobert, 19, Lucas Bergvall, 18, and Yang Min-hyeok, 18, as part of their new transfer strategy.

On top of this, 17-year-old Mikey Moore has been promoted through the club’s academy system and has made five first-team appearances already this season.

The clear focus on youth recruitment comes with the idea that Tottenham will help these players develop and reach their full potential to either feature in the first team or be sold on at a later time.

As well as being positive signings for the future, these players also have senior experience already and can be called upon to support the more experienced names in the squad.

While younger players may need slightly longer to gel and make their mark on the first team, Postecoglou’s willingness to afford them playing time will only help their development.

The long-term transfer strategy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium suits the manager’s methods and willingness to trust his players perfectly.

As a result, a number of Europe’s hottest talents have already made the switch to North London, and it won’t be long until Spurs are reaping the benefits.

Similar systems have been put in place by the likes of Brighton with their buy-low-sell-high ambitions in the transfer market – but Tottenham can attract a higher calibre of players.

This has also seen the club spend big money on young talents, such as the £40million deal for Gray, who they know will improve their squad in both the short and long terms.
