Anthony Gordon injury update after Newcastle and England star limps off against Nottingham Forest
The winger was in some discomfort as he left the pitch.
Anthony Gordon is a ‘doubt’ for England duty after hobbling off injured in Newcastle’s 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Magpies trailed high-flying Forest at the City Ground thanks to Murillo’s opener.
But they rallied in the second-half thanks to goals from Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes, the latter scoring just three minutes after coming off the bench.
Barnes replaced Gordon who was forced off in the 80th minute with injury and appeared to be in some discomfort as he left the pitch.
It was a concerning sight not only for Newcastle fans but also Lee Carsley, with the winger called-up to the England squad for their final two games of the year.
Speaking after the match, Eddie Howe said he was doubtful the 23-year-old would play for the national team in the upcoming international break.
‘I’d say because he has come off, yes [a doubt for England],’ the Newcastle boss said.
‘It looks like a similar problem to one he had a few weeks ago with his hip. We hope it’s not serious.’
After barely being used by Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024, interim boss Carsley has made Gordon one of his key players during the Nations League campaign.
If he has to pull out with injury, it could leave the Three Lions short of left-sided attacking options with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish also an injury doubt.
England take on Greece on Thursday before hosting Ireland next Sunday, Carsley’s final two games in charge before the arrival of Thomas Tuchel.
After the international break, Newcastle, up to eighth in the table, host struggling West Ham on November 25.
