Arsenal and Chelsea were reportedly keen on signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus this summer.
According to a report from TBR Football, the Italian international turned down the opportunity to join the London clubs in favour of a move to Liverpool. He completed a €15 million move to the Premier League club yesterday, and the Italian will look to hit the ground running in the Premier League.
He was regarded as one of the finest young attacking prospects in the world when he helped Italy win the European championships. However, his development stalled because of injury problems. The player seems to have gotten over his injury issues now and he will look to get back to his best once again.
He had an impressive season with Juventus last year, scoring 10 goals in all competitions. Liverpool needed to add more quality and depth to their attacking unit and signing the 26-year-old could prove to be a wise decision.
Arsenal and Chelsea wanted Federico Chiesa
Meanwhile, his decision to turn down a move to Arsenal and Chelsea will come as a blow for them. He was available for a bargain price, and he could have been a quality addition.
Chelsea need to bring in a quality winger, especially with players like Raheem Sterling expected to move on before the deadline. The Blues need more quality and creativity from the wide areas.
On the other hand, Arsenal need a versatile winger who will help them rotate players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The Italian would have been a quality acquisition for both clubs and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in quality alternatives before the window closes later today.
