Arsenal can make a game-changing deal by signing £40m PL player who's actually available - opinion

Arsenal have made one addition so far this summer but are close to bringing in a second ahead of the transfer deadline.

Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is close to joining The Gunners, following Ricardo Calafiori through the door.

Once that deal is completed, Arsenal could make a game-changing deal by bringing in a very exciting attacker.

In fact, he’s thought to be up for sale…

Arsenal should move for Jhon Duran

Arsenal are certainly going to be up there for the Premier League title this season but if they are to pip Manchester City, who have won it four times on the trot, they’ll need a specialist number nine.

At the moment, they’re rotating between Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus and whilst they’re both elite players, they aren’t likely to fire home 20-plus goals in the league.

That’s the kind of forward they need and perhaps under Mikel Arteta’s stewardship, Jhon Duran can become that player.

Duran has been in talks to join West Ham, Chelsea and AC Milan for most of the summer transfer window but neither met his £40m asking price.

With Villa thought to be open to moving him on, even despite his winner against The Hammers on Saturday, Arsenal should consider testing their resolve.

Unai Emery unsure if John Duran will stay

Like all clubs in the Premier League, Villa have to trade in order to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

As such, Duran was one of the players made available for transfer and Emery’s quotes after Saturday’s game indicated that that’s likely still the case.

“There will be more rumours about him after his goal, but I believe in him,” the Villa boss told Sky Sports.

“I gave him 30 minutes today and he’s very important to us.

“I don’t know (if he will stay).”

Arsenal really do have the opportunity to bring in talented number nine for a pretty feasible fee – certainly compared to Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres’ price tags.
