Arsenal fans rage as controversial Lewis Dunk footage re-analysed

Arsenal fans are convinced their team should have been awarded a penalty after Brighton defender Lewis Dunk seemingly handled the ball in the box during their 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Dunk, 32, was standing in the six-yard box when ex-Brighton defender Ben White struck a fierce shot on goal before it struck Dunk on the arm.

Referees have been told to be more lenient with hand-ball decisions this season, ensuring that the whistle won’t be blown when the player’s arm is in a ‘natural’ position.

In the end, the decision could have been a game-changer for Arsenal after the game at the Emirates ended in a frantic 1-1 draw.

In-form German forward Kai Havertz put the home side ahead with an impressive lob in the 38th minute before Declan Rice’s questionable second yellow card gave Brighton a foothold.

Brazillian Joao Pedro then equalised, capitalising on some sloppy defending from Gabriel to score his second goal against a ‘big six’ side in two games.

Lewis Dunk in handball controversy vs Arsenal

Captain Dunk has been with the South Coast club since their League One days back in 2009-10 and has since gone on to make 461 appearances for his boyhood club.

He has plenty of experience, but Arsenal fans think he was lucky not to give away a spot-kick and flocked to social media to express their annoyance.

Under the new handball rules I don’t know if this is a penalty

That was a goal bound shot which hit the defenders arm away from his body and potentially stopped it going in the top corner
Came from a long way out as well.
