Arsenal have made an approach for Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler, according to reports in Spain.

The 19-year-old joined Madrid for an initial €20 million (£17m) fee from Fenerbahce last year and made 12 appearances in his debut season in La Liga.

After impressing for Turkey at Euro 2024 in the summer, Arda has struggled to secure a regular role at Madrid this term, starting just three of their 17 games across all competitions so far.

According to Sport, the midfielder is unhappy with his current situation at Madrid and is keen to get more playing time for the Spanish champions.

The report claims that Arsenal have contacted Arda’s entourage to get an understanding of his situation at Madrid and gauge his interest in a potential move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are said to view Arda as a similar case to Martin Odegaard, who was struggling for playing time before he joined the Gunners on loan in January 2021.

Eight months later, Mikel Arteta’s side ended up making the deal for Odegaard permanent for an initial £30m fee.

Before the international break, Ancelotti was asked about the lack of minutes given to Arda and Endrick, the 18-year-old Brazilian who joined Madrid in the summer after a £51m deal with Palmeiras was initially agreed in December 2022.

‘[Endrick is] ready to play, doing very well, showing a lot of quality in training,’ Ancelotti said.

‘I say the same about Guler. They are young people who are pushing. But the collective idea is to turn things around as quickly as possible. Can you do that with them? Yes. But the objective is to turn it around, that is the priority. Not to give minutes to one player or another.’
