Phil McNulty believes Dan Friendkin is likely to want to wait until the end of the season before replacing Sean Dyche as Everton manager.
The former Burnley boss has been under some severe scrutiny this term due to the performances of his team across all competitions and is out of contract at the end of the season.
Responding to a fan who asked whether Lee Carsley could be in with a shout for the Toffees hot seat, BBC chief McNulty shared that while Dyche is unlikely to remain at the club long term, incoming owner Friedkin will likely want to let his deal run down.
“I agree with you that he will not come into contention if, as I believe, prospective new owner Dan Friedkin brings his own man in to succeed Sean Dyche, probably at the end of the season with – in the ideal scenario – Everton still in the Premier League and Dyche’s contract expired,” he wrote via the BBC Sport website (19 November).
Sean Dyche needs to prove his worth at Everton to The Friedkin Group
With the Friedkins’ takeover nearing completion, it’s highly unlikely that there will be any major changes at Goodison Park until they obtain control.
Although it feels like a lifetime ago since the Friedkin Group made a U-turn and chose to change their minds and buy the Merseyside outfit, everything regarding the takeover seems to still be on track.
With new owners will undoubtedly come a plethora of questions about the future of both players and staff at the club and, as Dyche’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, he has his work cut out if he wants to stay in the role.
There have already been several managers linked with the switch to Merseyside but nothing concrete has emerged just yet.
In reality, there won’t really be a clear picture about where the future of Everton is heading until Farhad Moshiri has left the club for good which means, for now at least, Dyche seems safe.
In other Everton news, Juventus may look to sign Jarrad Branthwaite in the near future.
