Arsenal Sources: Significant update on Eddie Nketiah today

Marseille’s move to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is not dead yet despite seeing two bids rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Arsenal are holding out for £25-30million, but could be tempted to drop their price in the closing stages of the window.

Should the Gunners lower the 25-year-old’s asking price, Marseille are expected to re-open negotiations, while Premier League clubs have also been backed to make moves.

Talks with the French outfit have been ongoing for weeks, with Roberto de Zerbi keen to revisit the Premier League in a summer spending spree.

They have already landed a deal to sign Mason Greenwood from Man United earlier in the window, while Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has arrived on loan.

Arsenal expected to lower Eddie Nketiah price tag amid Marseille twist

Nketiah joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of 16 after he was released by Chelsea, and has gone on to make 168 appearances for the club, scoring 38 goals.

He featured 37 times for the Gunners last season, but 24 of those appearances came from the bench as he played a bit-part role in the team that finished second.

As a result, the striker is looking to move away from the Emirates in search of regular game-time, while Mikel Arteta would be content to see him leave.

Football Insider revealed in March that Brentford, Wolves and Crystal Palace were all considering making moves to sign the striker.

However, Arsenal’s lofty price tag has proved prohibitive and they may now be forced to lower their demands in an attempt to move him on.

The signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna is the only business the Gunners have finalised so far this summer, but they remain active in the transfer window.

Nketiah’s exit would raise funds for further investment, and the club have already begun tracking alternative options, as revealed by Football Insider.

In other news, big news has emerged on the future of Man City star Jack Grealish.
