Paul Robinson does not believe there is any chance Tottenham will let Radu Dragusin leave during the January transfer window despite recent reports.
InterLive reported [21 October] that Spurs could offer the 22-year-old defender in a player-plus-cash deal for Yann Bisseck, while Juventus have been linked with a January loan move [Gazzetta dello Sport].
Ange Postecoglou is already without Micky van de Ven due injury, and with Cristian Romero avoiding a long-term injury scare, Spurs only have one other senior centre-back.
And Robinson – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that allowing Dragusin to leave Hotspur Way during the January transfer window would be a mistake.
“They can’t afford to let him go, it’s as simple as that. Spurs have got Romero and van de Ven, who looking at their injury records, neither of them rarely complete a full season,” he said.
“With the rigours of European football as well, that is an area where Spurs will recruit in January rather than let a player like Dragusin go. He still hasn’t been given much of an opportunity with a run of games.
“We saw in the Euros that he is a quality player. There’s absolutely no way that Spurs will deal for Dragusin in January, and will likely get another player in instead.”
Radu Dragusin to leave Tottenham in January?
Dragusin has played a much more important role since van de Ven’s injury, already making three Premier League starts this term after only making four last season.
A new centre-back signing would make a lot of sense for the Lilywhites, and letting Dragusin go, even on loan, would make zero sense to a team already struggling to make up their backline.
Any player is bound to be frustrated with a lack of minutes on the pitch, but if he is to have a starring role under Postecoglou, he must earn it.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs’ stance on Ange Postecoglou’s sacking has emerged after the defeat to Ipswich Town.
