Aston Villa fans were left fuming after they were not awarded a penalty in the first half of their game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (14 December).
Morgan Rogers drove the ball into the box in the first half with Elliot Anderson tracking him, as some supporters felt that the Forest midfielder dragged him to the floor.
Unai Emery’s side were ultimately not awarded a penalty and VAR opted not to intervene in the situation as the game continued as normal after they deemed it as a “fleeting grab with minimum impact on the player.”
The decision was one that Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie disagreed with as he stated, “You can clearly see there’s a real tug as he gets by him, he gets hold of him there and then he yanks him back.”
Forest went on to come from behind to claim all three points with goals from Nikola Milenkovic and Anthony Elanga in the final 10 minutes of the game sealing the three points at the City Ground.
The result led to Forest overtaking Villa in the Premier League table as they progressed into fourth as Emery’s team sit in sixth place.
