Kris Boyd was in disbelief at what he saw from Nice as they were thumped 4-1 by Rangers in the Europa League.
Allianz Riviera hosted the Gers on 28 November, and two goals from Hamza Igamane in either half, along with Vaclav Cerny and Mohamed Diomande finding the back of the net, gave the Light Blues a convincing win.
Speaking on Sky Sports News [28 November, 21:16pm], Boyd was baffled by how the Ligue 1 side defended in their loss to the Bears.
“This is crazy, honestly,” he said after the fourth goal of the night.
“The defending from Nice is incredible. It’s 4-0 to Rangers. The defending from Nice is atrocious, but Rangers will not care.”
Rangers took their opportunities v OGC Nice
Some might argue that the Glaswegian club were made to look better than they perhaps were due to the defending that was on show from Franck Haise’s team, but the Gers did well by taking their opportunities.
After a scare in the opening minutes, with the referee being called to the monitor to check for a potential penalty for the French outfit in a rather bizarre moment, the Bears rallied and put in their best performance of the season.
Philippe Clement hasn’t been as fortunate in previous matches in the current campaign, with Rangers scuffing several chances in their 4-1 loss to Olympique Lyon on 3 October in the Europa League.
The Gers’ attack was on point, and while they could’ve scored more, Igamane did well, showcasing his composure in front of goal.
Unlike Cyriel Dessers, who has been erratic during his time with the Light Blues, the Moroccan ensured that the team didn’t rue the day.
The Bears have St Johnstone next in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (1 December), and it’ll be interesting to see whether Clement can consistently make the team perform at a similar level.
