Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist is set to complete a loan move to Rapid Bucharest, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old will fly to Romania tonight to finalise the deal and put pen to paper following medical tests at the club’s training ground.

Siegrist has agreed to a two-year loan deal with the Romanian side which will see him through to the end of his current contract at Parkhead in 2026.

Managed by former Celtic boss Neil Lennon, Rapid Bucharest finished last season in sixth place, and currently sit tenth after two games.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 20 July that the goalkeeper had agreed terms over a move to Romania after the Hoops granted permission for his exit.

Benjamin Siegrist jets out to finalise Celtic exit

Siegrist joined Celtic on a free transfer in 2022 after departing Dundee United to provide depth as a backup to Joe Hart.

During two years under Brendan Rodgers, the goalkeeper made just two appearances, both of which came in the League Cup during the 2022-23 season.

Nevertheless, he was part of a Celtic squad which lifted two league titles, the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup.

The signings of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo this summer saw the goalkeeper pushed further down the pecking order under Rodgers.

Sources say he is now looking forward to linking up with Lennon after falling out of favour at Celtic.

Following Hart’s retirement at the end of last season, the club moved to strengthen in the goalkeeping department with two incoming deals, making space for Siegrist to leave.

While there is no option to buy upon the end of his loan deal in Bucharest, it now looks unlikely that the goalkeeper will return to Parkhead given his contract situation.

In other news, Liverpool will accept offers for Nat Phillips this summer.
