Bayern Munich director drops Alphonso Davies update amid Liverpool and Manchester United contact

Liverpool and Manchester United may be on different levels right now, but they are likely to be going for the same high-level targets in 2025.

Liverpool didn’t do much transfer business over the summer, so Arne Slot may well look to make some new additions in January.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim has only just taken the reins at Man United and he’ll be eager to bring in new recruits to strengthen his ranks.

Both Liverpool and Man United are keen on Alphonso Davies, TBR Football recently revealing that both clubs have spoken to the Bayern Munich star’s representatives.

Now, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has provided an update on Davies’ contract situation.

Alphonso Davies contract talks deemed ‘positive’

Sadly for Liverpool and Man United, it looks as though Davies is edging towards a contract extension at the Allianz Arena.

When asked by Sky Sport Germany about Davies’ contract situation, Freund said: “In principle, we are positive.”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano’s X update quoted Freund as saying: “We are feeling positive, generally speaking.”

However, Romano also claimed that “there’s still nothing decided, also nothing planned or agreed to being signed before Christmas with any club.”

Freund’s comments come in wake of a Sky Sport Germany report claiming Bayern have made significant progress in negotiations with Davies.

Plettenberg’s report claimed that negotiations are ongoing and positive, with key figures discussed, but with some more details needing to be clarified.

In terms of salary, Davies has reportedly made significant concessions to Bayern, while further crucial talks are set to take place before Christmas.

Plettenberg also reported that Man United are “also aware that Davies is likely to sign a new contract with Bayern.”
