Ross McCormack has defended Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier while suggesting the Rangers board might not stick by Philippe Clement much longer.
The Belgian has suffered a difficult opening to the campaign, which currently sees his Light Blues side sitting nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen.
This has seen the likes of Dessers and Tavernier come under fire, but former Gers striker and BBC pundit McCormack doesn’t believe they’re the problem, suggesting the Ibrox board may run out of patience with the manager.
Speaking to the Daily Record‘s Hotline Live (12 November), he said: “I don’t think [Dessers is] anywhere near Rangers’ biggest problem though, I really don’t.
“Even Tavernier is getting all this stick, getting dropped but again, he’s not the biggest problem either. There’s mountains of problems, it’s clear for everyone to see.
“I don’t like to see anyone lose their job but ultimately, the buck stops with the manager and if this keeps going then I can’t see the board sticking with it much longer.”
Rangers board to make Philippe Clement sack decision
There has been a lack of positivity surrounding Ibrox so far this campaign, which has led to many supporters calling for the manager to lose his job.
Defeats at Pittodrie and against Kilmarnock and Lyon have been particular low points for the ex-Monaco boss.
These have been difficult to recover from but two wins and a draw since losing to the Dons have helped the Light Blues bounce back somewhat.
This hasn’t stopped sections of the fanbase from demanding Clement be sacked but it doesn’t appear to be likely right now.
Frustrations haven’t been helped by performances from the likes of Dessers and Tavernier, who haven’t been the solid performers that they have been previously.
If these sorts of players can turn their fortunes around, the Belgian may be in line to keep hold of his job.
If not, there is a chance that the manager could be set to leave the dugout at Ibrox in the coming weeks.
