Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Leeds United chiefs will be “worried” if new Red Bull Global Head of Soccer Jurgen Klopp becomes too involved at the club.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs and boardrooms – insisted it is “hard to run a club by committee”.
Red Bull confirmed last week (9 October) that Jurgen Klopp will take on new role as Head of Global Soccer starting in January 2025 after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Leeds are minority-owned by the energy drink giant after new investment in the off-season.
Daniel Farke has confirmed the Whites would be “stupid not to use” Red Bull’s knowledge and framework in football.
He added: “As long as I am in charge, I will make sure we stand for our own values. “We are Leeds United and no one of our supporters would allow us to copy something or try a similar philosophy.”
Klopp involvement could have negative impact at Leeds, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Red Bull are a minority investor in Leeds, so they won’t have much of a say in football strategy.
“But if they did, it could become quite worrying for the powers at Leeds.
“Having someone like Klopp in there as the 66,000-pound gorilla trying to offer advice would be big.
“But as minority investors, they won’t have much say. It will be minor, if at all.
“They could increase their investment, which would increase their involvement.
“But at the moment, I don’t see him being involved in the Leeds strategy.
“It would be up to the club to ask for help rather than another voice and opinion being involved on different topics.
“It’s pretty hard to run a club by committee. The fewer people involved, the better.
“I don’t think we’ll see Jurgen at Elland Road very much.”
