Everton’s Bramley-Moore Dock stadium could be set for a “big reveal” of a new sponsorship deal in the summer, Kieran Maguire predicts.
Speaking to TBR Football (22 October) the University of Liverpool’s football finance expert said it would be a “fantastic” development for the club to have a naming rights deal for their home ready for the first time they play there during the preseason.
The Friedkin Group are set to buy the Toffees from Farhad Moshiri needing to improve the commercial performance at the club.
Maguire said: “I think they want a big reveal. There will be one or two ramp-up matches before the start of the season because they will want to test the stadium.
“As part of the license that they will be granted by the local authorities, there might be a match where they have 15,000 spectators, then one with 30,000 and so on.
“It would be fantastic if they have the name in place before the first practice match. At what is viewed as a very positive time for Everton, I think that will give them another boost.”
The Friedkin Group to secure Everton stadium deal
Dan Friedkin’s riches are set to bring the ongoing financial worries at Everton to an end, but being able to spend that money depends on being PSR compliant.
The route to that heavily leans on moving out of Goodison Park and into the new stadium, so making the most of that with a new sponsorship deal as soon as possible is an obvious priority.
Much of the recent turmoil came after the deals with Alisher Usmanov companies were scrapped as the club were forced to hastily cut ties with the sanctioned oligarch.
So with Moshiri soon to be replaced by Friedkin it would be a good way to consign the whole episode of the past few years to the past to get a new rights agreement in place.
As a large amount of Friedkin’s fortune has been made through selling and manufacturing Toyotas it is strongly predicted that the car brand will soon be attached to the club in some way [The Athletic, 23 September], but whether that is stadium naming partner remains to be seen.
