Billy Gilmour tipped his hat to Liam Kelly after he made his Rangers debut in the 1-0 win against Dundee FC on Saturday.
The goalkeeper made his long-awaited bow for the Light Blues in Jack Butland’s surprise absence at Ibrox on 21 December and later took to social media to express his delight.
Several players including Lawrence Shankland have sent their wishes to the 28-year-old, with Gilmour being the latest in line.
“Love it mate”, the midfielder wrote along with a blue heart emoji.
Liam Kelly set to return to Rangers bench amid Jack Butland news
Kelly was not expecting to start for Philippe Clement’s side when he arrived at Ibrox with the rest of the squad on Saturday.
However, first-choice goalkeeper Butland dropped out of the starting XI in a sudden turn of events, with Kris Boyd revealing that his sources told him that the Englishman picked up an injury ahead of kick-off.
Clement, though, cited “private reasons” for the former Stoke star’s surprise omission before confirming that he will be back in goal for the Boxing Day clash with St. Mirren [The Scottish Sun].
While the Belgian manager refused to reveal what the exact reason was, Butland lifted the lid himself later as he shared a picture of his newborn baby on Instagram.
It was a special moment for Kelly in other ways as he made his debut for Rangers.
He was on the Light Blues’ books for 12 years before joining Livingston in 2018. He returned for a second stint last summer and it was only on Saturday that he made his first appearance for them.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton launched a sour Light Blues rant at Robbie Savage after what he said about Ange Postecoglou.
