Branthwaite exit noise now 'very loud' at Everton as transfer deadline approaches - BBC Sport

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is one of the high-profile Premier League players who could move before the transfer window shuts on Friday, according to BBC Sport.

Although the Blues want the 22-year-old defender to stay, BBC Sport reported via their website on 26 August that rumours about an exit from Goodison Park are “very loud”.

Manchester United have made two bids for the England international, who is easily Everton’s most valuable player after an impressive 2023/24 season.

“Everton are keen to keep hold of their 22-year-old centre-back – but the transfer ‘noise’ is very loud,” said the BBC Sport report.

“The Toffees have already rejected two bids from Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite earlier this summer, with the Old Trafford club having since signed Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

“There are plenty of other teams being reported as ready to move though, with the latest link being to their city rivals Liverpool.”

Will Everton sell Jarrad Branthwaite before the summer transfer window closes?

Everton have made a lot of money to balance the books in recent years. However, they couldn’t stop themselves from being docked points twice in the Premier League last season and they may have to continue having one eye on the accounts with their business in the near future.

Whether that’s down to PSR, a potential relegation from the Premier League or an effort to help repay debts, Everton may need to cash in on a high-value player like Branthwaite soon.

After the way the new season has started, selling him at this point would be extremely counter-productive.

Evertonians are already up in arms about the defeats to Brighton and Tottenham – they’d be inconsolable if Branthwaite was to be sold on top of that.

There are other players who should be shipped out before the former Carlisle centre-back, such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Let’s hope for Everton fans’ sake that Kevin Thelwell is able to do that.

In other Everton news, the Blues are in talks to sign a player who’s made a shock exit decision at his club.
