Everton ace makes transfer plea after Tottenham loss

Everton defender James Tarkowski hopes the club will avoid selling their key players in the last week of the summer transfer window.

Sean Dyche admitted ahead of the 4-0 loss to Tottenham on Saturday [24 August] that offers for all players before the 30 August deadline will be considered [Daily Mail], including striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Tarkowski captained the Blues for the defeat in North London and told the Liverpool ECHO [26 August] that the side could avoid relegation this season by staying together.

He said: “I think I’ve been involved in many transfers windows when there is a speculation.

“I think at times, people move on and people stay. I hope that all our players stay here, and we bring a few more faces in, so we’ve got a strong squad and competition.

“But yes, that’s out of our control. We had a strong team out there (at Tottenham) and as I say, we’ve got a few more faces back. We’ve got real competition for places and hopefully performances improve.”

Everton in trouble after Tottenham loss

All hope Everton supporters had for a successful 2024/25 Premier League campaign has vanished only two matches into the new season.

The Blues have conceded seven goals and scored none in their first two games as tensions between the supporters and the club reached boiling point.

Everton had been predicted to survive comfortably in the Premier League this season [Opta Analyst] but are rock bottom in the league table after the two defeats as Dyche’s side look lost for ideas on the pitch.

A bit of perspective is also needed in the Blues situation, we are only a couple of matches into the new season and the summer signings have not yet settled into the squad.

Iliman Ndiaye, Jasper Lindstrom, and Jake O’Brien have the quality to make a difference for the Toffees this year whereas, Tim Iroegbunam has been thrown into the deep end with James Garner still sidelined with injury.

Given the Blues’ financial situation, keeping the core of the squad at Goodison Park may be more important than more additions this summer, their experience in previous relegation scraps will be vital should the side find themselves in a similar situation this campaign.

As things stand, it is set to be a long and gruelling season for Everton and Dyche needs to buck his ideas up and do it fast before the situation spirals out of control.
