'Bright Spark' - Commentary legend raves about Tottenham star after what he's seen

Dejan Kulusevski showed how vital he is to Tottenham Hotspur specifically with his recent goal against Rangers in the Europa League, according to Ian Darke.

The Swede has been a revelation of late in Ange Postecoglou’s system, scoring in each of his last four games including against Manchester United [19 December] as his side reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

TV commentator Darke, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, pinpointed the Rangers equaliser as a key moment as Kulusevski came off the bench and saved his side and his head coach at the toughest moment [12 December].

“Kulusevski has been a bright spark, scoring in his last four as well. They’ve also been able to use him in a variety of positions,” Darke said.

“He turns up and looks like he’ll cause teams problems. The goal at Rangers for example was very well taken at a difficult place to go and Tottenham needed that.”

With the stiff competition he faces, Kulusevski would not be blamed if he was regularly rotated by Postecoglou, but he has become a mainstay in a side with several potent attacking options.

The 24-year-old is not only producing for Tottenham but on the international scene, too, as the star turn for Sweden last time out with a brace and an assist against Azerbaijan.

For club and country, the forward has now totalled 18 goal contributions since the start of 2024-25; Spurs take on league leaders Liverpool next this Sunday [22 December].
