German Bundesliga club Hoffenheim are interested in signing Super Eagles defender Jordan Torunarigha from Gent this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Hoffenheim are currently looking for defensive reinforcements as they look to improve on last season when they finished sixth in the Bundesliga.
Defensively, they were one of the worst side, as they conceded 66 goals in the league, the fourth highest in the German top-flight. Their main center-backs Attilai Szalai and Stanley Nsoki did not give them enough stealth at the back, and Ozan Kabak is injured.
To solve their problems, Hoffenheim have identified Gent man Torunarigha according to reports from Kicker. The 26-year-old defender has been a rock at the heart of Gent’s defense in the last two years. He has registered four goals and five assists in his two years in Belgium.
Torunarigha is not a stranger to playing in the Bundesliga. He started his career in the league, playing for the youth sides of Hertha Berlin. He also made 81 appearances for Hertha Berlin before moving to Belgium.
Hoffenheim will also get Torunarigha at a good price because Transfermarkt value him at €5 million, but Gent could demand up to €8 million before they let him go.
Torunarigha was born in Germany to Nigerian parents, which meant he was eligible to play for both countries. He represented Germany at youth level before switching to Nigeria at senior level. He has one cap for the Super Eagles.
