Union Berlin part ways with coach Bo Svensson
After a eight-game winless run in the league, Bo Svensson has paid the ultimate price with his job as Union Berlin have decided to begin 2025 with a new coach.
The former 1. FSV Mainz 05 coach was appointed 1. FC Union Berlin coach in the summer, with the club staving off relegation under the guidance of interim coach Marco Grote who was assisted by Marie-Louise Eta and Sebastian Bönig.
It started on a positive note for Svensson, with Union remaining unbeaten in their first four Bundesliga ties, and losing just once in their first six games, including a memorable 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund at home.
That early momentum has faded away, however, with Svensson failing to oversee a win since the end of October.
And now, the Union Berlin board have decided to pull the plug ahead of the start of the New Year.
