Katie Wilkinson admitted she was “buzzing” to have made such a successful debut for Rangers Women as Jo Potter’s side kicked off the campaign with an 11-0 win over Aberdeen.
The club confirmed the striker’s arrival from Southampton on 25 June as she followed defender Laura Rafferty to Glasgow from the south coast of England.
And she kicked off her Gers career in some style on 11 August with four goals in a huge victory to start the SWPL season.
She told RangersTV: “Yeah buzzing, obviously to start my first game and make my debut, score my first goal, but then turn it into four.
“The most important thing was three points, plenty of goals, clean sheet and just set us on our way.
“I do love a header so I always want to be getting on the end of crosses, but different types of goals I think adds a bit of variety to the way we can play.
“Just grateful to be scoring as many as I could today.”
Jo Potter gets Rangers Women season underway in perfect fashion
As opening games of the season go the win at Balmoral Stadium was close to perfect and represents an early show of intent as Potter looks to recapture the league title.
Rio Hardy and Lizzie Arnot also registered doubles while fellow new arrival Olivia McLoughlin and Laura Berry joined them on the scoresheet along with a Dons own-goal.
Nichola Doherty and Chelsea Cornet both started as the end to their positive Scotland campaign in the Nations League this summer carried over into domestic action.
Leah Eddie was another making her Light Blues debut after arriving from Hibernian during the offseason and the early signs were strong to suggest the new-look side can impress this term.
They will of course face sterner tests than the one Aberdeen put up in a shellshocked start to their own campaign but Rangers Women will look to build on this result and generate as much momentum as possible in through the opening games.
Partick Thistle, Queen’s Park and Montrose Ladies follow in the space of a week starting on 18 August and with Wilkinson already in such strong goalscoring form there has to confidence heading into next weekend, as Potter did what evaded Philippe Clement and the men’s side with an opening day win.
In other Rangers news, a exit-bound star wants to stay at Ibrox but Clement has told him he can go anyway.
