‘Right now’: How Liverpool really feel about Mohamed Salah leaving the club next year – journalist

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future is up in the air after his comments over the weekend.

The Egyptian told Sky Sports on Sunday that he’s not had any conversations about a new contract at Anfield, and, as you can imagine, Salah’s comments have caused something of a frenzy.

Speaking on ESPN, Mark Ogden has been discussing Salah’s situation and how Liverpool feel about the winger.

According to Ogden, Liverpool do want Salah to stay, but, from a business perspective, they’re not against the idea of losing Salah due to his age.

How Liverpool feel about losing Mohamed Salah

Ogden shared what he knows about how Liverpool are feeling.

“The situation right now is that there’s a bit of a standoff. Liverpool would like him to stay, but they don’t want to pay too much money for him to stay. They would accept him leaving. As unpalatable as it is, they would accept Mo Salah leaving. From a business perspective he’s on the wrong side of 30,” Ogden said.

“I’m pretty sure Arne Slot would like Mo Salah to stay in the team and Salah would probably like to stay at Liverpool.”

Liverpool need to have a plan

In some ways, it’s easy to understand Liverpool’s stance here.

Most player’s in their mid 30s have minimal transfer value, while performances often begin to decline around this age.

However, at the moment, Salah is still at the very top of his game, and if Liverpool were to lose the Egyptian, they’d need a plan in mind to replace him.

Of course, Federico Chiesa has come in, and he could be a potential Salah successor, but the Italian has plenty to prove in terms of his fitness and his ability at Premier League level.

Liverpool are calm about Salah’s situation, but their lives would be much easier if they manage to get the winger to pen a contract extension.
