Lilywhite Rose: Tottenham must act fast to sign £60m+ PL star amid Man City transfer speculation

John Wenham has suggested that Tottenham might no longer be interested in signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t understand what is taking the club so long to sign the England international.

It comes after Darren Lewis reported via the Mirror (22 July) that Manchester City are considering a move for the £68million-rated Eze.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has urged Spurs to act fast if they want to sign the 26-year-old.

“Tottenham need to trigger his release clause, it is as simple as that,” Wenham said.

“I’m not quite sure what the delay is. Perhaps Spurs don’t want him as much as we were led to believe.

“With City now interested Spurs need to be careful. If we want to get hold of Eze then we really need to get on with it.

“Again, maybe the club just don’t want him as much as we’re led to believe. Perhaps a player from our academy might emerge on this pre-season tour and establish themselves.”

Tottenham to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze?

This is an incredibly confusing transfer saga.

It has been made abundantly clear that Palace won’t let Eze leave for anything less than his release clause.

Therefore, club-to-club negotiations will not be a factor in signing Eze. If Tottenham want to sign the Palace star, they must pay his release clause and then agree personal terms with the player.

However, the delay suggests that this is not a major priority for Tottenham.

However, if they wait too long, they could be beaten to the punch by City. Pep Guardiola’s side are unlikely to hesitate to trigger Eze’s release clause if they decide they want the player.

And once City make their position clear, it would likely become very difficult to convince Eze to move to North London and Tottenham instead.
