Manchester United finally picked up a win in Europe as they managed to eventually see off PAOK at Old Trafford to lift the mood.
United’s form in the Europa League has been pretty dismal this season and under Erik ten Hag, they looked like going nowhere fast.
However, a double from Amad Diallo ensured United picked up a crucial win and Ruud van Nistelrooy continues to make a compelling case to be kept on at the club when Ruben Amorim takes over.
For United, winning at home and turning Old Trafford into a fortress is key. And in Diallo, they could very much have a player who suits Amorim down to the ground.
Indeed, Diallo was one of the top performers without scoring and according to former coach Rene Meulensteen, it was impressive to see.
Amad Diallo impresses Rene Meulensteen during Manchester United v PAOK
Commenting on the game for BBC Sport, former United assistant Meulensteen was impressed by what he saw and in particular, the performance of goal scorer Diallo.
“Amad Diallo was by far the best man. The first goal, brilliant header, a very clever header,” Meulensteen said.
“But I was more impressed with the second goal, he made that goal with his tenacity, pressing to win the ball back and then to dribble inside and have a fantastic finish.
“For a player who has not started a lot of the games, he was magnificent.”
Can Amad Diallo finally become a main man for Man United?
There have been glimpses from Diallo over the years but so far, he’s never quite managed to cement a place in the United XI and be the main man.
However, with Ruben Amorim now coming in, there is yet another chance for Diallo to impress and show his worth to United.
Diallo impressed last night for United with his finishing and United fans will hope there is more to come.
The club do have faith in the winger and United are even ready to hand Diallo a huge new deal.
The time could have come, then, for the £37m signing to finally become a key man.
