Callum Wilson has revealed his frustration after the Newcastle striker suffered a fresh setback in his bid to recover from injury.
The striker has come off the bench in each of the Magpies’ last four games, his first appearances of the season after another extended injury lay-off.
Wilson himself has now opened up on his disappointment over this latest blow. Writing on Instagram, the Newcastle striker said:
“Despite all the hard work I’ve put in pushing to get back to full fitness, I need to take a little step backwards unfortunately, guys.
“Frustrating as it is for everyone out there waiting for my return & to be able to help the team, these shortcomings also upset and frustrate me more than anybody else.
“I will, and I am doing everything in my power to rediscover the best version of myself & finally get off this emotional rollercoaster, which I’m hoping 2025 will bring.
“Appreciate the patience, love & support from all those closest that know how hard I really work & how professional I always am.”
A number of Wilson’s past and present Newcastle teammates including Joelinton, Joe Willock, Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy and Paul Dummett were keen to show their support in reacting to that post with hearts and messages of support for their “brother” at St. James’ Park.
Callum Wilson setback may be a double blow for Newcastle
Football Insider Opinion
There is an argument that this injury to the striker will be a blow for the Magpies in more ways than one.
The obvious issue is that they have of course lost a very good goalscorer, who can make some vital contributions when he is fit and available.
As a result, Newcastle are once again short on cover and competition for Alexander Isak at centre-forward while Wilson is again absent through injury.
However, this injury setback will make it much harder to complete a sale, not least given clubs may be hesitant to invest on a player who has had so many injury issues recently.
With that in mind, this latest update on Wilson has added to the problems facing Newcastle, amid a somewhat underwhelming season at St James’ Park.
In other news, Alan Shearer has given his verdict on whether Eddie Howe should stay on as Newcastle manager.
