Celtic fans have called for the club to hand Matt O’Riley a bumper new contract after he scored in the pre-season win v Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers’ side ran out 4-1 winners against the English giants, with O’Riley on the scoresheet alongside Kyogo Furuhashi, Luis Palmer and Mikey Johnstone.

This victory came just days after the 4-3 win against Premier League champions Manchester City, with Celtic enjoying a successful pre-season tour so far.

O’Riley’s role in the victory against Chelsea has the Hoops’ supporters gushing over his talent once more despite transfer interest from clubs across Europe.

Football Insider revealed on 27 July that the club will hold out for a record-breaking £25million transfer fee to allow him to leave.

Fans, meanwhile, have insisted his pre-season displays will have increased that price tag.

O’Riley has been subject to intense speculation throughout the summer transfer window, although Celtic remain hopeful of keeping him at the club.

Ahead of their return to the Champions League group stages, Rodgers is looking to have the strongest possible team available to him.

This would mean keeping O’Riley at the club, and Celtic fans have now insisted they should offer him a new deal as well as driving up his price tag.
