Celtic fans believe that Brendan Rodgers’ comments after their Champions League embarrassment are an example of why he will never be an “elite” coach.

The Hoops were beaten 7-1 by Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (1 October), despite Daizen Maeda scoring in the ninth minute of the game.

Celtic stuck to their game plan throughout the match regardless of the scoreline, but during his post-match press conference, Rodgers admitted he wouldn’t have changed things had he known the outcome.

He said, “No, not really. I think it’s one we went in high on confidence, the team’s been playing ever so well so we felt in a really good place.”

Celtic had made a strong start in the Champions League by winning their first game 5-1, but the midweek defeat has now left them 19th in the table.

Rodgers’ post-match analysis is something that angered fans who ended up claiming he was “deluded.”
