Malang Sarr’s Chelsea nightmare could finally be over with Lens reportedly interested in signing the forgotten Blues defender.

The centre-back moved to Stamford Bridge in 2020 on a free transfer from Nice, in what was seen as a bit of coup for Chelsea.

He was quickly loaned out to Porto for a season but upon his return struggled to break into Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI, only making 21 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign, including just six Premier League starts.

The 25-year-old hasn’t played for Chelsea since, with a disappointing loan at Monaco following, and last summer Mauricio Pochettino embarrassingly seemed to have no idea who Sarr was when asked about the player in a press conference.

He nearly left the club in January for Le Havre, but the Blues U-turned on his sale at the last minute, much to the fury of the French side’s director.

Now, after not playing a single game in the 2023/24 season and being forced to train with the U21s, Sarr’s time in west London may finally at an end, with multiple sources from France, via the Express, reporting that Lens are interested in his services.

With just a year left on his contract, Chelsea are more than prepared to let Sarr go, and while they likely won’t receive much or anything in the way of a fee, they are keen to get him off the wage bill.

Despite having not played for the club for two years, the Frenchman reportedly earns £120,000-a-week, far more than Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Nicolas Jackson and more.

It is also said that selling Sarr to Lens would help Chelsea in their pursuit of Elye Wahi who snubbed the Blues last summer to join the Ligue 1 club instead.

It is said Todd Boehly and co. are still interested in the striker who scored 12 goals in 27 games last season.
