Chelsea eye deal for player Everton are reluctant to lose - report

Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the Dominic Calvert-Lewin situation at Everton with a view to making a move, according to the Daily Mail.

The British news outlet reported on its online edition on Thursday (6 June) that Chelsea are monitoring Calvert-Lewin as a possible alternative to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Everton are said to have offered the England international a new contract, meaning they are reluctant for him to leave, but Chelsea and others have him on their radar.

Newcastle United have already been strongly linked with Calvert-Lewin ahead of the summer transfer window officially opening [The Telegraph, 23 May].

Can Everton keep hold of Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

There are some players Everton will be more reluctant to lose than others this summer, Calvert-Lewin being one of them.

The Toffees want to tie the centre-forward down to a new deal, which would help put an end to the speculation over his future, but until that happens these transfer rumours will persist.

Newcastle’s interest is understandable given they are themselves concerned about losing Alexander Isak, whereas Chelsea seemingly want to sign every attacker they can.

On the face of it, links with Calvert-Lewin make sense as he has showed he knows how to find the net in the Premier League.

At the same time, a combined 12 goals over the past two top-flight seasons is hardly the type of return to set pulses racing from a Chelsea fans’ perspective.

Calvert-Lewin has played a big part in Everton’s back-to-back relegation battles, however, and replacing him would be incredibly difficult.

It therefore makes sense to reject any bids that come in and instead hope that the takeover goes through soon enough that the decision is not forced on the club.
