Chelsea fans blasted over 'shameful behaviour' v Everton - report

Connor O’Neill has slammed Chelsea fans for their “shameful behaviour” after they heard poverty chanting during their match against Everton at Goodison Park.

The Liverpool Echo journalist said the away section could be heard singing “feed the Scousers” to the tune of Band Aid’s “Do they know it’s Christmas?” during the first half of their game.

Writing via the Liverpool ECHO website (22 December, 14:03), journalist O’Neill slammed those who were singing the chat.

“Less than one minute on the clock and we are already being reduced to chants of ‘feed the Scousers’ from Chelsea supporters. The juxtaposition is not only idiotic and brainless, but also vile. Shameful behaviour,” he wrote.

This sort of behaviour really needs knocking on the head, it is totally and utterly abhorrent.

At a time when people all over the country are still struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and the use of food banks is constantly on the rise, supporters really should be uniting together to tackle these sort of issues, not using it as some sort of cheap shot to score points in a football match.

Words like “shameful” and “vile” barely do justice to how mind-numbingly awful these kind of chants are, especially where will be plenty of supporters of both clubs struggling with rising costs and paying bills.

Here’s a bright idea, right, why don’t we all just try showing a bit of empathy to fellow humans, especially those really struggling at what can already be an extremely stressful time for many. In other words, everyone just needs to do so much better than this.

In other Everton news, Merseyside police sent a message out to both sets of supporters prior to the Chelsea clash.
