Chelsea make move for Villarreal star who is keen on Stamford Bridge switch
The Blues want ANOTHER first team goalkeeper.
Chelsea are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer and have made an ‘initial approach’ for Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen.
The Blues had Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez competing for the gloves last season, while Kepa Arrizabalaga was out on loan at Real Madrid.
Clearly they are not happy with their goalkeeping options, though, as they have made a move for Jorgensen.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that an ‘initial approach’ has been made to the Spanish club, but a move is in the early stages.
The report also states that Jorgensen is keen on a deal to be done, but he is not the only target on Chelsea’s shopping list, with Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen of interest.
Jorgensen is not a goalkeeper of great experience, with the 22-year-old only becoming a regular for Villarreal last season.
The stopper was born in Sweden and was capped for the country at youth level before switching allegiance to Denmark, where his father is from, and has played for his new nation’s Under-21 side.
He made his La Liga debut in January 2023 and impressed last season, making 36 appearances in the Spanish top flight and making more saves than any other goalkeeper the division.
Villarreal are not keen to let their goalkeeper go and will demand a big price for him as he only signed a new contract with the club last month, with his deal now running until 2029.
It has already been a busy summer in the transfer market for Chelsea as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Marc Guiu, Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman and now Caleb Wiley have arrived at Stamford Bridge.
19-year-old defender Wiley is the latest to sign, with the arrival of the American from Atlanta United announced on Monday.
