Chris Beesley has revealed that he understands The Friedkin Group’s takeover is “moving along” as planned.
The Roma owners agreed a historic deal to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park last month [Fabrizio Romano, 23 September], but there have been minimal updates from either the club or TFG since.
Although it isn’t yet clear whether or not the deal will be completed by November as initially stated, Liverpool Echo journalist Beasley insists that everything is on track at this stage.
Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (14 October, 24:08) he said: “As far as I understand. At the time people in the know were saying hopefully before Christmas time and possibly before the start of December.
“We’ve still got quite a while before then. I certainly don’t envisage any issues in terms of 777 having to jump through the hoops that they did and tick all the boxes.
“Friedkin is worth in the Bloomberg Billionaires index just shy of $10million so it’s not like 777, he’s not having to get the money from anywhere else.
“We’re hoping there’s not going to be an issue with him getting the money from anywhere else with the fact that he owns Roma. Hopefully, everything seems to be moving on track.
“We’d all love it to be all ok and done in a week but it unfortunately doesn’t work at that kind of pace these days and yeah, everything seems to be moving along.”
What is happening with the Friedkin Group’s Everton takeover?
Supporters will obviously want to be kept in the loop with what is happening with TFG’s takeover, but as Beesley suggests, these things tend to play out behind the scenes in this day in age.
On the face of it, the Roma owners shouldn’t really have too many stumbling blocks to navigate. They are known to be wealthy and have taken ownership of another massive European club so should be equipped to own the Toffees.
Whether or not that is completed by or after November is anyone’s guess. Ultimately, the most important thing is that the deal is approved and finalised, if it happens sooner, it can only be a good thing for everyone at Goodison.
Should the takeover be agreed before the January transfer window, it may give Dyche and his recruitment team a bit more money to spend in the new year, but that isn’t the be-all and end-all in this scenario.
