Rangers are not expected to sack Philippe Clement even if they lose to Aberdeen at Pittodrie on 30 October, believes Chris Jack.
The Rangers Review journalist has admitted that the noise surrounding his future will certainly increase as Gers will then be nine points adrift of the top of the league.
There is understood to be plenty of chaos behind the scenes with a number of key positions still not permanently filled.
Jack wrote on 30 October: “If Rangers were to fall nine points adrift of the Dons – and most likely Celtic given that they are at home to Dundee this midweek – then the noise around Clement would reach new decibel levels.
“In that situation, all the calls for time and patience, all the suggestions of improvement and progression, would be drowned out in a cacophony of criticism and recrimination.
“The prospect of Clement being relieved of his duties remains a remote one at present, and certainly while the positions of chairman and chief executive remain to be filled on a permanent basis.
“That shield can only sustain fire for so long, though.”
Philippe Clement may soon run out of excuses at Rangers
Being nine points behind the league leaders by late October, as would be the case if Gers lost to Aberdeen, represents a substantial gap this early in the season.
Clement’s position could become untenable as it undermines the club’s ambition and expectations, particularly for a team with Rangers’ resources and history.
It also reflects poorly on his tactical approach and squad management, suggesting that either his tactics aren’t effective, or he’s not getting the best out of his players.
Given the pressure for immediate success in modern football, the board might see a change in management as the quickest route to course correction, especially if there’s an underlying lack of faith in Clement’s methods or if results continue to disappoint.
While there’s merit in giving a manager time, football’s results-driven nature could deem Clement’s tenure unsustainable if the gap widens or if performances don’t markedly improve.
He’s also unlikely to have any excuses as this would be a rotten start to the domestic season.
In other Rangers news, a claim has emerged on Gers sealing the transfer of an ‘Exceptional’ SPFL player in January.
