Chris Jack: Rangers board could delay Ibrox redevelopment plans after Copland Road saga

Rangers could be set to delay plans to redevelop the Broomloan Road stand at Ibrox this summer, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported on Friday (25 October) that interim chairman John Gilligan has told the fan advisory board that the club must start next season at Ibrox after the Copland Road fiasco this summer.

If the Light Blues were to press on with work on the Broomloan Road stand, Philippe Clement’s side would once again need to play away from Ibrox and the headaches of this summer are being taken into account.

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement have to move away from Ibrox again?

The entire process of redeveloping the Copland Road stand was an absolute farce from start to finish this summer and it would be a ridiculous decision on the Gers’ behalf to basically repeat it once again next year.

While some will argue playing away from Ibrox was just an excuse for the Light Blues’ poor displays in Champions League qualifying and a miserable start to the Premiership season, playing at Hampden Park definitely impacted Clement’s side on the pitch.

From a financial point of view, the lack of matchday income at Ibrox also harmed the Gers’ revenue, an obstacle they could have done with avoiding as they looked to close the gap to Celtic both on and off of the field.

Although redevelopment work on the Broomloan Stand would be beneficial in the long run, it would be naive of the Light Blues to repeat James Bisgrove’s mistakes so quickly after they were initially made.

Hopefully, they do take the decision to delay the remaining work at Ibrox so that they can begin next season on the front foot.
