Chris Jack: Rangers need three new transfers, Clement has less than two weeks

Chris Jack has insisted that Philippe Clement must add three deadline-busting signings to his Rangers squad before the transfer window closes.

The journalist believes the Gers need a defensive midfielder, an attacking midfielder, and a new wide option, with under two weeks of the window remaining.

Clement and Nils Koppen have been working tirelessly on a shoestring budget to build a squad capable of competing with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, though many are unconvinced.

Writing for The Rangers Review on Tuesday (20 August), Jack said: “Clement needed, and still needs, quality and quantity, but within a new framework and as part of a reprofiling of a group that was not fit, in all senses, for purpose last term.

“He now has less than two weeks to complete that work. Rangers require two midfielders, one more defensive and one more attacking, and another wide option at the very least.”

The Gers have already added eight players to the squad this summer, though multiple of those moves have not provided boosts to Clement yet.

While Oscar Cortes is an extremely talented winger, his injury luck has seen him sidelined once again, with Clinton Nsiala playing for the B team, and Hamza Igamane yet to reach full fitness.

Of course, Connor Barron and Vaclav Cerny look like very handy players at Ibrox, both emerging as key stars for Clement and already cementing their spots in the starting XI.

Adding new players before the 30 August deadline is not that easy, however, with very limited funds at Clement’s disposal this summer.

Having been knocked out of Champions League qualifying, the Gers have missed out on a very important windfall, which could have already had a damning impact on their transfer plans for the remaining days.

Rangers could have pocketed an extra £25million if they had qualified for the Champions League, but thanks to a controversial defeat to Dynamo Kyiv, Koppen will need to strike some bargain deals.
