Chris Jack: Rangers star set for month out after surgery on injury setback

Danilo is set to be out for a month after the Rangers star had a second operation on his knee, Chris Jack reports.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via the outlet’s website on 5 September that the Brazilian had travelled to the Netherlands the same day for rehab and was spotted in Glasgow airport the same day wearing a brace.

The procedure is not said to be serious and the striker will be back in training in the coming weeks, having missed most of last season with a serious knee injury last term.

His surgery emerged immediately after his was omitted from Philippe Clement’s Europa League squad [UEFA], along with Rabbi Matondo.

Clement made changes to the medical department during the summer [Rangers Review, 15 July] after being highly frustrated by the level of injuries he had to deal with during his first season at Ibrox.

But whatever alterations were made have not made a difference so far, with the rate of absences potentially even getting worse this term.

Matondo has withdrawn from international duty after going off hurt in the Old Firm derby defeat at Celtic [Scottish Sun, 3 September], having been kept at Ibrox despite transfer interest ahead of the deadline [Football Scotland, 30 August].

Returning loanee Oscar Cortes has been out since the first game of the season against Hearts, while Nico Raskin and Hamza Igamane made their first appearances of the campaign late off the bench at Parkhead over the weekend.

Robin Propper was signed and immediately picked up a problem of his own, so after a transfer window where observers consider Clement’s squad to now be worse since last season [Premier Sports, 2 September] the situation continues to be made even harder by appalling luck on the injury front.
