Clement may have to look at other Rangers players to sell after Dessers twist - report

Rangers manager Philippe Clement may have to look elsewhere for players to sell this summer after a new update on Cyriel Dessers, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its print edition on 15 July [page 61] that following the 2-1 loss to Ajax in pre-season, the Nigeria international shared his desire to stay with the club for at least next season.

It means that Clement will have to look at other options to fund his rebuild at Ibrox, with the future of Todd Cantwell said to be uncertain.

Plenty of changes have already occurred at Ibrox over the summer with players such as Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane both arriving as part of a younger revolution.

More additions were expected but they were likely going to be funded by the sale of players like Dessers which seemed a near certainty, especially when it was reported that he’d handed in a transfer request [Soccernet, 25 June].

This resulted in a plethora of attacking talent being linked with Rangers and potential replacements already being drafted up.

But, thanks to Dessers stating his desire to stay at Ibrox, Clement will likely have to look elsewhere to fund any further additions.

Two players that have been heavily linked with exits are Gers stalwarts, James Tavernier and Conor Goldson, despite their long-standing position at Ibrox.

But, for progression to take place at the club, one or perhaps even both of the defenders will have to be shipped off this summer.
