Club chief admits he may be ready to sell Rangers-linked player, Ibrox 'appears in his destiny'

Thomas Galdames may be destined to sign for Rangers after Godoy Cruz club president Alejandro Chapini admitted a deal could be on.

Reports have suggested that Philippe Clement’s side are one of a number of clubs interested in securing the defender’s signature this summer, with Godoy Cruz needing to sell him this summer to receive a fee [Nahuel Ferreira, 31 May].

While it remains unclear whether Galdames will make the move to Glasgow, Diario AS (7 June) has suggested that Ibrox is one destination that “appears in his destiny” and Chapini has said that may be the case.

As quoted by Diario AS on Thursday (6 June) he said: “Since he arrived, Thomas has grown impressively, but for now it’s all polls. Someone even called about Universidad Católica, but nothing serious to say that he is close to moving to another club.

“He is a club player and must respect the contract. However, we have never blocked the departure of a player if there is something convenient for both parties.

“Normally, when the representatives are 90 per cent closed, they appear with their proposals. So far they are simple polls. We will wait a few days.”

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sign Thomas Galdames in the summer transfer window?

Chapini’s comments make it clear that Godoy Cruz will be willing to let Galdames leave this summer, as long as a reasonable offer arrives for his services, which should be music to the ears of Rangers.

The side have never previously stopped a player depart the club and there is no reason that should change this summer. If Galdames is destined for Ibrox, the Light Blues should move now to ensure they make the move happen.

Rangers Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement is in need of reinforcements at Rangers.

With Borna Barisic already departing Scotland and speculation still surrounding Ridvan Yilmaz’s future, the 25-year-old would provide Jefte with some genuine competition at left-back which will be necessary if the Gers want to close the gap to Celtic.

Whether or not Clement’s side will now push to secure the Chilean’s signature remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see their interest develop in the next few days after Chapini’s recent comments.

In other Rangers news, a bid is reportedly being readied to pull James Tavernier away from Glasgow this summer
