Roma may have to contribute severance pay to Tammy Abraham if Everton are to complete a permanent deal for the striker, according to Tutto Mercato Web.
The Italian outlet reported via their website on 30 July that the ex-Chelsea man’s high salary makes a Premier League exit the objective at the Stadio Olimpico as they look to move him on before the deadline.
Abraham, 26, is reportedly on €4.5million a year which roughly equates to £73,000-a-week, but is also said to have another €1.5m in easily-attainable bonuses in his deal that would take his salary up to just under £100,000-a-week.
It is unknown whether the Toffees would be ready to give the English international a similar deal as the man he is likely to replace, the exit-linked Dominic Calvert-Lewin, is reportedly on around £85,000-a-week [Daily Mail].
Sport Italia’s Gianluigi Longari reported via X earlier on 30 July that the Toffees have made a new approach to Roma for information on a possible deal.
Roma may have to pay off Everton target on way out
For a striker at a top European club, or anywhere in the Premier League, Abraham’s contract isn’t outlandish but the Toffees may not be willing to match it.
The club have engaged in substantial cost-cutting measures in the face of a daunting financial position in recent months [BBC Sport, 3 June, 12.34pm] and in the wake of the Dan Friedkin takeover collapse will clearly have an eye on keeping expenditure at a manageable level.
High earners such as Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes have been allowed to leave in successive summers as fitness issues have made the investment unsustainable.
And with Abraham scoring just once in 12 appearances last term as he came back from a serious injury of his own it might be considered a risk to hand him a big deal at Goodison Park.
At his best he would be a very solid replacement if Calvert-Lewin is sold but it is perhaps surprising for him to be a significant target considering the trials the current Everton number nine has been through in recent years.
Sean Dyche managed to oversee a relative return to fitness for his top striker last term but having entered the final year of his contract he now isn’t expected to sign an extension in light of the takeover issues [Paul Joyce, 19 July].
That puts the pressure on offloading him this summer but there are currently said to be no takers [Ian Croll, 26 July], which could block a move for Abraham either way.
In other Everton news, transfer rivals for a prime free agent have blocked their manager from signing him with the Toffees interested in a deal.
