Bryan King has insisted that people with “Big” Everton connections were surprised that the club even signed Dele Alli.
The Toffees have reached an agreement with Tottenham that means they owe no payment should they offer Alli a new contract at Goodison Park [Football London].
The ex-Toffees scout admitted that the whole situation is “Strange” but admitted he could be a very clever free transfer if he can prove himself again.
“If Everton are prepared to get him fit, he has then got to get back to playing,” he exclusively told Goodison News.
“It is one thing training and getting fit, but he has got to get back into match situations. Therefore decisions will still be pending.
“It is a strange situation. It has been strange ever since he went to Everton, I could never see him being an Everton player. I spoke to several people with big Everton connections, and they were also surprised the club had brought him in.
“He is not the sort of player who looks up for a relegation fight. However, he deserves a chance, if he is prepared to train then the next step will be matches and reintegrating into the squad.
“It will be interesting to see how the squad accepts him. For Dyche, if they can get him back, it could prove to be a very good free-transfer signing.
“Alli just needs to prove that he wants it.”
Everton strike new Dele Alli agreement
Alli did travel to Ireland for the pre-season trip and was seen in individual training as he steps up his fitness and looks to prove himself once again [Joe Thomas].
After an agreement with Tottenham for no payments, Sean Dyche and his staff can take their time and make the best decision, not only for the club but for Dele too.
It will be interesting to see what happens, but if he proves himself, it could be a smart move.
