Club wins 3-way battle to sign another Rangers ace, he's gone back on his word - report

Rangers are about to sell Ianis Hagi to Fiorentina after the Italians won a three-club race to sign the Romanian, Digi Sport reports.

According to the Romanian outlet via their website on 26 July the Serie A side have beaten another one of the winger’s former sides Alaves, and Real Valladolid to a deal.

Hagi spent last season on loan with the former of the two La Liga clubs and had indicated he wished to stay in Spain for “a long time” as he loved everything about the league [MARCA, 21 March].

But instead he appears to have gone back on that sentiment as La Viola are reportedly on the brink of sealing a deal worth €2.5million [£2.1m] with a 10 per-cent sell-on clause included.

Fiorentina beat Alaves to sign Ianis Hagi from Rangers

If Fiorentina have come out on top against two options to stay in Spain, including the exact one where he grew to love La Liga, they must have made Hagi an excellent offer.

He is believed to have agreed a contract worth just over £16,000-a-week in Italy after spending two seasons there earlier in his career [SportpeSure, 21 July].

Clearly, he is well within his rights to take whichever offer suited him this summer after three years of upheaval as a Gers player that included a major injury.

Assuming this move is completed soon he will leave having never featured for Philippe Clement, who took over from Michael Beale after Hagi had been sent out to Alaves.

Rangers Ianis Hagi
Ianis Hagi is set to leave Rangers after spending last season out on loan.

With Sam Lammers now safely packed off to FC Twente and both Scott Wright attracting suitors in England and abroad [Darren Witcoop, 23 July] it looks like the club are finally managing to tidy up the squad with important deals for peripheral players.

But after Clement confirmed Todd Cantwell has asked to leave [Sky Sports, 25 July] and main striker Cyriel Dessers also linked with an exit to various destinations [Chris Jack, 3 July] the Light Blues are going to be left looking very light going forward if the manager and Nils Koppen can’t add some more reinforcements after the confirmed loan signing of Vaclav Cerny.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have secured a shock multimillion pound transfer profit but it could have been even more.
