Philippe Clement’s body language is causing concern at Rangers as it is now starting to follow the poor image given off by some of his players, according to Derek Ferguson.

Exit speculation around the Belgian has gradually increased since the major impact he had upon arrival in October started to wear off, with Hugh Keevins suggesting in the Daily Record on 25 March that the Dens Park pitch controversy at the time could help speed up an exit to England.

More recently Keith Jackson, also in the Daily Record on 22 July, has mooted a departure during a frustrating transfer window and rough preseason form, amid a troubled relationship with wantaway Todd Cantwell and rumours he may be in the frame for the Belgium job.

And former Gers favourite Ferguson is concerned about the possibility too as he feels the 50-year-old appears noticeably reduced from the imposing character who first arrived in Glasgow.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “Even his body language. I’ve been looking at the players’ body language over the last couple of games and it’s woeful by the way.

“And I’m now starting to look at the manager. You could tell when he came in he was a real strong personality, got a certain way of playing the game.

“But I’m even looking at him, watching the interviews, and he actually looks like a real shadow of the guy that first came in the door.”

Rangers boss fighting fires in transfer window ahead of new season

Philippe Clement has appeared disappointed with the situation at times this summer.

Clement has clearly not had it easy in the past few months as his major rebuild has been frustrated by the revelation that he has to sell to buy, which he revealed is not the impression he had upon arrival [Daily Record, 13 July].

Sam Lammers and Connor Goldson have only recently secured moves away so the manager will hope he can now start to catch up on time lost in the market, with cash now made available for a run at Lawrence Shankland if he wants it [Daily Record, 29 July].

Ibrox construction issues outside of his control mean his side will have to start the campaign playing at Hampden Park in a potentially major distraction in another blow to his hopes of getting off to a fast start in the race to overturn Celtic.

The Gers hierarchy is reportedly not going to consider sacking him even if the season begins badly [The Herald, 27 July] after realising the issues that has caused in the previous two seasons, but whether he might walk is outside their control.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are involved in a mysterious transfer situation where it is now denied that they have been rejected after multiple offers.
