Alan Myers believes the fact that Everton fans think their club lacks an identity is one of the first challenges that The Friedkin Group will have to face as the Toffees’ new owners.
The American businessmen have officially completed their takeover of the Merseyside outfit in welcome news on the Blue half of Merseyside after years of turmoil.
The Friedkin Group will have a 98.8 per cent [Kieran Maguire, 19 December] controlling stake in the club and will no doubt be laying out their plans for the future at a later date.
Writing for the Sky Sports website (19 December), Myers shared why he thinks the Friedkin Group needs to tackle the Merseyside outfit’s identity at the first chance they get.
“They will walk into a club that needs change both culturally and results-wise. There have been issues with its relationship with the fans for a while now, many believe the club lacks an identity and they want to know where the club sees itself,” he wrote.
“That is a challenge the new owners will need to start work on immediately and get right to.”
The Friedkin Group have come in at the perfect time for Everton
While it may have been a rather long process, the fact everything has been completed before the January window has opened is a near-perfect situation for the Toffees to have found themselves in.
From their performances this season, it’s evident that further reinforcement is needed to bolster the Merseyside outfit’s ranks if they don’t want to be dragged into another Premier League relegation battle.
Due to how long the process seemed to take, fans weren’t sure whether they’d have new owners for the January window which would have been far from ideal.
The Toffees are 15th in the Premier League table at the moment but only three points are separating them from 18th-placed Ipswich which is evidently a cause for concern.
Only time will tell if The Friedkin Group’s ownership will be a success but for now, at least, fans can feel relieved that the burden of Farhad Moshiri is no longer on their shoulders.
In other Everton news, the future of Jake O’Brien now seems sealed after the latest transfer news that has emerged from Goodison Park.
