Journalist shares Colin Chong update after Everton takeover announced

Everton will continue with Colin Chong as interim chief executive officer for the foreseeable future, according to Lewis Steele.

The report from the Mail Online [19 December] states that Chong will continue his interim role as it stands, as The Friedkin Group (TFG) formally complete their takeover of the Toffees from Farhad Moshiri.

Dan Friedkin will be the figurehead of the ownership with Marc Watts leading the board as executive chairman; Ana Dunkel is reportedly set to join as the club’s financial director, while Chong, Kevin Thelwell and Sean Dyche retain their respective roles.

Everton emphasise stability as TFG empire begins

As the new reign and new era begins on Merseyside with TFG finally seeing their takeover through, stability has been the order of the day.

This will come blissfully to the ears of Everton fans, who for far too long have witnessed the rollercoaster years envelope their club to the brink of relegation to the Championship and boardroom chaos.

Moshiri, to whom Chong gave thanks as the takeover bid picked up pace, bid a final farewell to the Toffees fanbase which will be received in a variety of ways – but now the excitement can build towards achieving loftier ambitions than supporters have become used to.

Survival remains the aim this season, with Dyche a specialist in ensuring the stability Friedkin is demanding. Keeping him at the helm is undoubtedly the correct decision until the end of the season, when the move to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium will really make the fresh chapter feel glaringly real.

Reassessment and planning can then be put forward towards wherever Everton are looking to reach, and key calls can then begin to be made around managerial staff, the squad, academy and footballing board decisions.

In other Everton news, Paul Joyce reports a key landmark moment is coming as the stadium move gets closer.
