Cole Palmer breaks social media silence after crushing Chelsea blow

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has taken to social media for the first time since Enzo Maresca confirmed if he can play in their upcoming Premier League game against Arsenal (November 10).

The 22-year-old picked up a knee injury in Chelsea’s drab 1-1 draw with Man United on Sunday (November 3) following a rash challenge from Lisandro Martinez.

Chelsea fans were furious with the Argentinian defender, taking to X, formally known as Twitter, to vent their frustrations over the incident.

Joint with Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, Palmer tops the charts for goal contributions so far this season with 12 across their opening 10 Premier League games.

His injury is a crushing blow for Chelsea as they sweat over whether he can be back for the weekend.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League tie with Armenian side FC Noah on Thursday (November 7), Maresca admitted he’s ‘hopeful’ Palmer will be able to feature against Arsenal.

“Yeah, for sure. He didn’t train the last two days. We will see. Hopefully he can be fit. The tackle, I think it’s quite clear, was not a normal one. Hopefully he can be back.”

“Cole was in the changing room with ice so we are waiting now. Hopefully it is nothing important.”

Cole Palmer set to be a huge miss for Chelsea

Since joining the club in the summer, Maresca has introduced a two-squad system, leaving his talismanic forward out of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League squad to limit his minutes ahead of a busy season.

While Palmer remains the undisputed first-choice in the number 10 position, the West London club have a wealth of options with Joao Felix and Pedro Neto both capable understudies.

The England international seems unfazed by his injury, however, taking to Instagram to share Chelsea’s recent post promoting the club’s latest charity venture.

Inspired by Palmer’s ‘cold’ celebration and working alongside local charities, the initiative aims to provide warm clothing for those across the capital who need it the most this winter.

Maresca has his side once again in contention for Champions League qualification this season, sitting in fourth with 18 points on the board.
