Djed Spence has enjoyed a “complete turnaround” at Tottenham over the past couple of matches.
As reported by Give Me Sport [9 December], Spence was set to be the subject of loan enquiries in January, with Nottingham Forest even being tipped as a potential destination.
However, after making his first two starts for Tottenham in the space of a week, it looks as though things might have changed for the full-back in North London.
Spence was labelled “terrific” in the 5-0 Premier League win over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday [15 December], while Gabby Agbonlahor was impressed by the 24-year-old’s display in the controversial 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday [19 December].
Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think Spence will be going anywhere now, after previously suggesting he could join a Premier League club on loan.
“Huge credit to Spence,” Wenham said.
“He seems to have had a complete turnaround at Tottenham. Just last week I thought that he might leave on loan in January. However, he has now proven himself in a big game like the one against United, coming off to something of a hero’s reception at the end.
“It is also hugely beneficial to have a homegrown player, who is versatile, in the squad. Therefore, it doesn’t look like he will be leaving, and he is a real option now to rotate with Destiny Udogie and even stake a claim for his own position in the team.”
Djed Spence to remain at Tottenham in January?
Spurs are incredibly short of options at the moment after an injury crisis so bad that behind-the-scenes dismissals have been mooted as a result.
Therefore, Spence has picked the perfect moment to come into form in North London.
And it is hard to imagine that he will be going anywhere anytime soon after his bright displays.
